Ragamuffins Turns 1 :D

It was brought to my attention that it has been one year officially since I posted the first Ragamuffins strip.  I must say it feels really nice.

I want to thank everyone out there that continues to read and support the strip.  I love drawing the strip! It is a break in my week from work and the stresses on hand.  I also want to thank the VAIL DAILY for continuing to run my strip on Saturdays, thanks for sticking with a local artist, it means a lot.

I hope everyone continues to enjoy the strip!  Thanks everyone!

Shredding that POW POW…Korbel style.

I have a friend who is one of the most amazing skiers I’ve ever seen!  Whats even more cool is that he does it sitting down on a bi-ski.  My buddy Zach Korbel has Cerebral Palsy but he never lets that stop him from shredding on the mountain.  Ever since Zach was a baby he was on the mountain.  Being the son of two ski instructors,  Zach’s passion in life is to be a ski bum (a successful one anyway).  With bi-skis being very expensive he was never able to have one of his own.  After saving up for a few years and a good chunk of graduation money he was able to purchase his own sweet ride.

After skiing with it for a year Zach approached me and asked to do some art work on his precious baby. I was so excited and honored I of course accepted.  I had never drawn on a bi-ski before so it would be a great challenge.  This last weekend after many delays I was finally able to go over to his place and start the drawing.  I was a bit more nervous considering the bi-ski was rather difficult to draw on, and of course you always wanna make your friends happy.  I spent about 3 hours and got the first bit done.  Here’s how it turned out.

Thanks Zach, I can now say I did some artwork on a bi-ski!  It was a lot of fun and I look forward to working more on it1  Thanks Dude.

Sharing Favorites

favorite-webcomics

So I know I have mentioned these strips/artist before but I always feel I should share the love. These three strips have been favorites of my for years now and I hope that you too will enjoy them.

The first is “Player vs Player”, better known as PVP by Scott Kurtz. This strip recently made the jump to full color and runs Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend strips called “Ding” Kurtz’s ongoing side project. This strip is always well crafted, created digitally and has a long backlog of great strips. You can start your obsession at www.pvponline.com

The second is “The Abominable Charles Christopher” by Karl Kerschl. This really should not be classified as a comic. It is way too pretty. Kerschl is able to create a very dramatic, funny and touching strip once a week. Not quite as long running as PVP or Sheldon it is still a must read. You have to set your eyes upon this beautiful work. You can do so at www.abominable.cc/

Last but most certainly not least is “Sheldon” created by Dave Kellett. I have never seen a more consistent and well crafted strip. It is a 7 days a week strip. Kellett’s attention to line and hand crafted lettering is a throw back to the golden years of comic strips. He has a great sense for word play and is clever with each strip. Find out for yourself why I so highly recommend this strip. Visit www.sheldoncomics.com

Catching up with these three strips will keep you busy. Be sure to catch them daily or weekly and to continue your support of Ragamuffins!
